Disney closes linear channels

by RXTV-newsdesk

Long expected move by American media giant blamed on a breakdown of talks between it, Sky and Virgin.

As a result, Disney Channel UK, Disney Junior and Disney XD will be pulled from all platforms at the end of September.

Trade journal Broadcast reported that the closure of channels was a result of a breakdown in talks with Sky and Virgin Media, although it’s not clear what terms Disney were offering for carriage.

Disney has been gradually withdrawing its linear channels around the world as it focuses on its subscription video-on-demand service Disney+, so it has come as no surprise that it hasn’t fought to keep services running in the UK.

Other Disney-owned services, including National Geographic and Fox, will continue to be available to UK pay TV viewers.
