Over 50 channels, both in the UK and around the world, will be played out and distributed by SES following a new multi-year deal.
The deal between BBC Studios and SES announced this morning means services will be played out from the new SES facility at Stockley Park in London. BBC Studios operates BBC entertainment services around the world, including BBC Brit, BBC Earth and BBC First. In the UK it owns UKTV, the broadcaster behind Gold, Yesterday, Dave and Drama, which will all migrate to SES for content processing, playout and distribution.
SES, best known as the operator of the Astra satellites but also for its playout and distribution business, is also responsible delivering on-demand content from BBC Studios/UKTV’s associated on-demand services, such as UKTV Play.
While the changes take place behind the scenes, there will be no impact on how viewers access the affected channels.
“Our UK and global audiences and advertisers expect seamlessly delivered high-quality services, and in the transforming world of broadcast we need flexibility and responsiveness to meet ever changing audience demands. By selecting SES, we believe we have found a partner that is committed to delivering innovation and can meet our business needs going into the future.”Marcus Arthur, President UK, Ireland BBC Studios & CEO UKTV
