Origin launches TV service

by RXTV-newsdesk

Customers of Doncaster-based ISP Origin Broadband will now be offered a TV service powered by Netgem.

Netgem’s boxes combine recordable Freeview channels with additional free and paid-for apps including Prime Video, hayu and Rakuten TV, plus sports channels Premier Sports 1 and 2.

The deal was first announced last year, but is now about to be rolled out to customers, under the name “Origin TV”.

So far, Netgem has been gradually making its hybrid TV service available to a number of smaller ISPs including WightFibre, who want to offer so-called triple play (phone, broadband, TV) bundles to their customers to compete with the big broadband operators. Origin is the largest provider so far to partner with Netgem.

Sylvain Thevenot, MD of Netgem TV, said:

“There was no better partner than Origin Broadband to introduce the next evolution of our TV service in the UK, offering greater choice at better value to the consumer and a fast launching solution to ISPs looking to add video to their services and expand their reach.”
