Cable TV subscribers can access the Virgin Media UHD channel at no extra cost over Christmas, regardless of their subscription tier.
Available on channel 999 on Virgin V6 and 360 boxes, the Ultra HD channel enables viewers to access dramas, documentaries, performances and movies in the highest available resolution.
The channel will be available to all subscribers until Friday 31st December 2021. Virgin Media UHD was originally due to open up to viewers on Saturday. But technical issues delayed the go live by two days.
Virgin Media UHD highlights
The channel’s schedule in the run up to Christmas is dominated by seasonal performances. These include a number of Royal Shakespeare Company performances. Performances start with The Tempest (Monday 20th from 2pm), Twelfth Night (Tuesday 21st from 2pm) and Macbeth (Wednesday 22nd from 2pm).
A performance of Swan Lake follows on Thursday 23rd from 2pm. Then on Christmas Eve (Friday), UHD viewers can sit back and watch The Nutcracker from 2pm.
UHD movie highlights include Charles Wilson’s War, starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts (Wednesday 22nd from 9:30pm) and The Adjustment Bureaux with Matt Damon on Boxing Day (Sunday 26th from 9:30pm). Matt Damon returns on Monday 27th with the action thriller Green Zone from 9:30pm. Additionally, Virgin Media UHD will showcase The Visit, The Danish Girl and Danny Boyle’s biopic Steve Jobs in 4K UHD.
Viewers without a 4K UHD TV will be able to watch programmes from Virgin’s UHD channel downscaled to HD.
