Freeview plays catch-up with channel changes that occurred last week. The platform does not make changes to services between Christmas and New Year.
Now Xmas is long gone, and temporary seasonal service That’s TV Xmas finished on New Year’s Eve. But labels for the channels on Freeview still carry their seasonal names.
That will change by midday on Tuesday 4th January 2022, when Freeview will make its first update of the year. From that point, the affected channels will once again carry their correct names.
The move coincides with the annual switch-back from Great! Movies Christmas to Great! Movies Classic across all digital platforms on Tuesday.
4th January 2022
- Channel 51 | GREAT! Movies Christmas becomes GREAT! Movies Classic [Local multiplex]
- Channel 62 | GREAT! Movies Xmas+1 becomes GREAT! Movies Classic+1. Manchester only [G_MAN]
- Channel 7/8 (some regions), Channel 76, Channel 78 and Channel 91 are relabelled to reflect the changes on 28th December and 31st December 2021.
Freeview operates a change freeze over the Christmas and New Year period, meaning it doesn’t make any changes to services or channel names. Where services change or close during the period, all technical changes are completed as soon as possible in January.
Most viewers won’t need to retune to update the channel labels – and probably shouldn’t bother retuning just yet. A major reshuffle affecting numerous Freeview channels is due to occur later this month, paving the way for the return of BBC Three at the beginning of February.
