Move reflects reduction in regional TV variations and changes to BBC Local Radio.
The three editions covering England will be merged into one from January 2023.
Subscribers who receive one of the current England editions will be automatically migrated to the single England edition. There are no changes to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales editions of the TV listings guide.
The Radio Times was the last remaining listings guide that continued to publish multiple editions in England. In recent years, this was cut to three editions: London/Anglia/Midlands plus South/West/South West and Yorkshire/North East/North West.
The magazine currently regionalises the first double page of TV listings in England, containing listings for BBC and ITV regions plus Channel 4. The London/Anglia/Midlands edition includes London Live listings. Other editions include BBC Wales and/or BBC Scotland variations and S4C. The last double page of radio listings – BBC Local Radio – is currently split two ways, with London/Anglia/Midlands and South/West/South West sharing the same local radio listings. Midlands local radio stations appear in all three Radio Times editions in England.
But with the number of BBC Local Radio programmes set to reduce in the new year and few non-news regional shows on BBC One, there are fewer variations to list.
ITV1’s only main programme variation within England is a monthly Thursday night politics show.
Most TV schedule variations now exist between the nations of the UK.
The Radio Times has reassured readers in a note to subscribers that it will continue to list regional programmes and local radio listings in the combined edition.
Other listings magazines either publish an England-wide edition or combine the West of England with Wales. But where this occurs, the England edition covers all other English regions.
The Radio Times also publishes a Digital Edition that contains radio listings from all four nations of the UK.
