Virgin Media says it’s cheapest for Premier League fans

2 August 2022

The new Premier League season kicks off this weekend, and Virgin Media says it can save fans money compared to its rivals.

200 Premier League matches will be televised this season across Sky, BT and Amazon Prime Video. Once again, fans will require a range of subscriptions or a new bundle to watch all possible games.

New research from Virgin Media claims nearly two thirds (65%) of fans are confused about selecting the right TV and broadband bundle ahead of the new season. The research also shows that nearly two thirds (65%) of football fans will be watching more games at home due to the cost of living crisis.

The cable operator claims to have found the answer: Its Bigger + Sport bundle (£72 a month) includes Sky Sports HD, BT Sport HD and 4K UHD, plus M500 Broadband (up to 516Mbps download). However, a separate Amazon Prime subscription is required to access Amazon’s October and December Premier League games. Amazon Prime Video is available through the dedicated app on the included Virgin 360 TV box.

Bigger + Sport also includes access to Virgin TV Go, allowing users to stream TV and sports on their device.

On equivalent services from Sky and BT, which include TV, broadband and landline services, it would be £363 more expensive with Sky (calculated over the course of an 18-month contract) and £307 with BT (calculated over the course of a 24-month contract) respectively.

Virgin’s Bigger + Sport offer is valid until the end of September 2022.

Check the detail!

When comparing bundles with different providers – check the variables. Some charge extra for HD and UHD. Others may offer a lower speed broadband tier which works out cheaper, especially if you live in an area where higher speeds aren’t possible.

Some customers may be offered a retention deal and some will be locked into a minimum contract period. 18 month contracts are especially effective at stopping football fans from swapping provider at the start of each season, as a penalty would be due.

David Bouchier, Chief TV & Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media, said:

“With the usual movement of players during the summer football transfer window, fans should follow suit and make the switch to Virgin Media ahead of the new Premier League season to net huge savings. Virgin Media is top of the table yet again when it comes to being the cheapest and most convenient place to watch all of the action so come and join us for what is set to be another great year of live sport.”

  • Set-up and installation fees may apply. Prices may rise during the contract period.
