MGM+ launching in the UK with Lionsgate and STARZ content

2 April 2024

Amazon announces MGM+ will launch on Prime Video channels this May as part of a global rollout of the streaming brand.

  • In the UK, MGM+ will replace the current MGM service on Prime Video Channels
  • New service will incorporate content previously shown on Lionsgate+
  • Lionsgate+ subscribers on Amazon Prime Video Channels will gain access to the MGM+ service

Amazon has announced the launch of MGM+ in the UK and a deal that will enable streamers in the UK to continue watching content from Lionsgate/STARZ. It follows the end of the standalone Lionsgate+ streaming app in the UK at the end of February 2024.

From May 2024, MGM+ in the UK will become the exclusive home to some of STARZ’s most popular first-run TV series, including the complete Outlander franchise, Power Book I-IV, BMF, The Serpent Queen, P-Valley, and Hightown.

Additionally, the MGM+ service will offer hits from the archives, including The Great, Mad Men, Nashville, Weeds.

Hit movies including American Psycho, Reservoir Dogs and Saw will also feature.

The enhanced MGM+ will replace the existing MGM service on Prime Video Channels. This will bring the number of countries where MGM+ is available to 31. MGM+ has already rolled out across parts of Europe, Latin America and the USA.

Prime Video Lionsgate subscribers to gain access to MGM+ UK

Lionsgate+ ceased as a standalone app in the UK at the end of February. However, the Lionsgate+ Prime Video Channel continued beyond that date.

Amazon says that Lionsgate+ subscribers who joined via Prime Video Channels will now gain access to MGM on Prime Video Channels ahead of the changeover to MGM+.

MGM+ has already taken on Lionsgate content in a number of European and Latin American countries.

Corporate comment

Josh McIvor, Global General Manager, MGM+ said

“The expansion of MGM+ in the United Kingdom further cements Amazon’s commitment to invest in and grow the MGM+ channel internationally, while enhancing the content offering available to subscribers.”
