5 launches refreshed daytime line-up in battle for audiences

9 December 2025

ITN Productions will produce six hours of live daytime programmes on 5 starting in January. The revamp coincides with massive cuts at ITV, the previous king of live daytime TV.

5 has confirmed its refreshed daytime line-up for 2026, unveiling a new talk show fronted by Matt Allwright (of Watchdog and Rogue Traders fame) as it invests further in in the schedule.  The new Matt Allwright show will feature the day’s biggest stories, plus consumer insight.

Earlier in the day, Storm Huntley will join forces with new co-host Alexis Conran, who previously had a separate slot on the channel.

Jeremy Vine will continue in his regular slot. Meanwhile, Vanessa Feltz will round off the 5 daytime schedule between 2-3pm with a revamped viewer focused show. The return of Vanessa from Monday 5 January puts an end to tabloid speculation over the future of the presenter’s show on 5. Vanessa had come off air at the end of October.

Contrast to ITV’s reductions

The revamped line-up is in marked contrast to ITV’s plans for the new year.

ITV is cutting costs at Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women. Good Morning Britain moves to ITN alongside the rest of ITV’s national news programming. Lorraine will only air at certain times of the year, and only for 30 minutes. Loose Women will only be on-air for the equivalent of seven months a year (30 weeks out of 52 weeks).

Until recently, ITV ruled the roost of daytime TV with eight hours of live TV. However, the broadcaster has struggled with scandals and declining audiences. The broadcaster is also under pressure to cut costs, with Comcast interested in taking over ITV’s linear TV business.

5 says its existing daytime shows have enjoyed audience share growth, both in linear and online, where engagement has surged.

New 5 line-up from 5 January 2026
