Amazon, BBC and Sky split Bundesliga rights in streaming switch

20 August 2025

Amazon’s Prime Video and the BBC will stream coverage from Germany’s top tier of men’s football starting this weekend as Sky loses exclusivity.

  • BBC to stream coverage on Fridays.
  • Sky Sports continues to cover Saturday evening games.
  • Prime Video will offer Sunday and selected midweek games on a pay-per-view basis.

German football fans have a choice of free, pay TV or pay-per-view access to live Bundesliga games, as coverage shifts to streaming services.

Previously a mainstay of pay TV channels, including both BT Sport and Sky Sports over the past decade, the 2025-26 Bundesliga season heralds a new era for UK viewers and a lot of app hopping to follow Harry Kane and his fellow Bundesliga players through the season.

Amazon’s Prime Video and the BBC will begin to stream games no longer available on Sky starting from this Friday (22nd).

The free option (Fridays) – BBC iPlayer

BBC Sport has signed a multi-year broadcasting deal with the Bundesliga, Germany’s top flight football league, to show free-to-stream matches from the start of the 2025-26 season this weekend.

You’ll be able to watch Friday night’s opening game between Bayern Munich, featuring Harry Kane and RB Leipzig.

Future games on the BBC iPlayer include:

  • 29 August: Hamburger SV v FC St Pauli
  • 12 September: Bayer Leverkusen v Eintracht Frankfurt
  • 19 September: VfB Stuttgart v FC St Pauli
  • 26 September: Bayern Munich v SV Werder Bremen

If you’re watching the BBC on any connected or streaming TV platform (e.g Freeview Play, Sky Stream or Virgin Media), just press red to access the iPlayer.

The pay-per-view option (Sundays and selected midweek) – Prime Video

Bundesliga coverage on Prime Video kicks off on 24 August for the opening weekend of the 2025/26 season, also in a multi-year deal.

Amazon’s streaming service will exclusively broadcast two Sunday afternoon fixtures every match week, plus 15 extra Sunday games throughout the season. Prime Video will show at least one match during the midweek and final day match weeks.

You’ll also be able to stream four matches of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 Relegation Play Offs.

How much? Matches will cost £2.49 each. You don’t need to be an Amazon Prime member.

  • 24 August: Mainz v Köln and Mönchengladbach v Hamburger SV
  • 30 August: Wolfsburg v Mainz and Dortmund v Union Berlin

The traditional pay TV option (Saturdays) – Sky Sports

Sky’s four year exclusive deal to offer the Bundesliga to UK viewers has come to end. Instead, its subscribers will now only be able to access a selection of Saturday evening games.

With Amazon and the BBC streaming games, Sky will be the only broadcaster to still offer coverage on a traditional broadcast platform, without the lag experienced with online streams.

That doesn’t mean streamers will miss out: Sky will make all of the games available via its various streaming platforms, including NOW.

  • 23 August: St Pauli v Borussia Dortmund
  • 30 August: Augsburg v Bayern Munich
  • 13 September: Bayern Munich v Hamburg
  • 20 September: RB Leipzig v Cologne
  • 27 September: Borussia Monchengladbach v Eintracht Frankfurt
