New Era for Sky’s NOW streaming service

29 January 2025

Sky is migrating NOW users to the technology platform used by Peacock in the US in February.

  • New user interface for NOW customers.
  • Introduction of new features.
  • UK and Ireland NOW customers first to be migrated. Other countries to follow later.

Sky’s flexible streaming offshoot NOW has unveiled a new look and feel to its service as part of a major change taking place behind the scenes.

From 18th February, NOW customers will be automatically migrated to a new streaming platform, which has been built on the technology platform used by NBCUniversal’s Peacock in the US.

What’s changing?

As a result of the migration, NOW is promising to offer a more personalised experience.

Subscribers will see new rails such as “Top 10s” appear on the interface.

There will be enhanced, smoother search options.

Additionally, for NOW Sky Sports Members, Sky Sports+ streams will appear as curated collections, which are supposed to make finding what you want to watch much easier.

Kids profiles will be introduced.

Further rollout

NOW in the UK and Ireland is the first to be migrated to the new technology platform.

Italy and Germany will follow at a later date. (In Germany, the service trades under the name of ‘WOW’.)

How did we get here?

Ahead of Wednesday’s annoucement, RXTV understands a user trial took place in 2024 involving a select number of volunteer customers.

Prior to this, Sky had already hinted that elements of Peacock would live on internationally after Sky pulled the plug on its version of the service a year ago.

At the time it said Peacock’s technology would be utilised on different platforms as part of a wider revised strategy for Peacock.
