Two streaming channels re-join Virgin Media

4 February 2025

Virgin Media UK customers can now again access two reality channels with further streaming channels on their way.

  • Channels dedicated to Hell’s Kitchen and quiz show Eggheads return to the platform
  • Virgin Media growing its selection of free streaming channels.

Virgin Media has reinstated two streaming channels, giving viewers access to back-to-back episodes of Gordon Ramsey-fronted reality show Hell’s Kitchen and archive episodes of popular British teatime quiz Eggheads.

Both channels had been removed from Virgin Media’s channel line-up last year, without any notice.

Now the channels are back, with Hell’s Kitchen on channel 233 and Eggheads now streaming on channel 253.

RXTV understands Virgin Media are also preparing the ground for other streaming channels to launch on their TV platform this year. This means viewers should soon be able to enjoy additional new services at no extra cost.

Streaming channels began to arrive on Virgin Media two years ago, when the TV platform regrouped its channel list to cater for the services.

Unlike traditional broadcast channels, viewers can’t record streaming channels. These types of channel are IP-delivered instead of a traditional broadcast DVB-C (digital cable TV) channel on V6 and TV360 boxes. (On Virgin Media’s Stream (Flex) boxes all channels are streamed.) Streaming channels are often dedicated to one particular topic or programme. Advertising is inserted dynamically and can be unique based on the viewer.

Speaking about the two (re-)launched channels, David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2, commented:

“Reality TV doesn’t just entertain us, but tests our knowledge, gives us something to chat about for those water cooler moments, and most importantly, brings TV fans together. The expansion of our streaming channel offering is brilliant news for our customers, and with some of the most recognisable reality content available to watch our customers can sit back, relax and enjoy extra value – and extra drama – on us.”
