Virgin Media TV subscribers in the UK now have access to two further streaming services via their existing receiver.
The two services originate from Stingray Digital, a provider of free, ad-supported television (FAST) music channels, also available on platforms including Roku, Hisense and the Stingray Streams app on Android TVs.
As part of the new channel line-up, Virgin TV customers now gain access to:
- Stingray Classica (channel 296): Dedicated to classical music, opera and ballet. For classical music experts, or newcomers to the genre, there is something to suit everyone. Including 50 world premieres a year, recorded at renowned concert halls, festivals and opera houses. The channel also features high quality documentaries, exclusive classical music programming, and weekly premieres.
- Stingray DJAZZ (channel 297): Customer can experience jazz concerts, films, portraits, and documentaries from various venues and festivals. DJAZZalso presents artist profiles, interviews, and backstage reports.
There are currently 32 free streaming channels available to customers, according to Virgin Media O2. That’s still only a fraction of services that are available via free streaming apps available on most smart TVs. However, the inclusion of at least some streaming services does deter viewers from drifting away from their existing cable TV receiver.
Other streaming channels currently on Virgin Media include British Screen Classics, U&The Past, Baywatch and History Hit.
David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2, commented:
“We are launching two brand new FAST channels to give our customers even more of the best entertainment Virgin TV has to offer. We’re always looking to offer our customers handpicked channels to broaden our offering which is why we’ve added two more to the mix. From classical music to jazz concerts and artist interviews, the new channels offer something for all music fans to enjoy.”
