BBC Persian has ended broadcasts in standard definition on the Hotbird satellite, after a short simulcast in both formats.
The channel, which belongs to the BBC World Service, follows BBC Arabic TV in opting for a quick switch to the high definition standard.
BBC Persian HD first appeared on Hotbird at the end of October 2020, giving viewers a three-month transitional period to switch across.
It broadcasts on the same Hotbird transponder as the former SD version, but now can only be received on newer satellite receivers.
