Satellite Updates (Astra 28.2/5E)

Major Astra 28.2/5 satellite frequency changes of interest to viewers in the UK and Ireland updated on a weekly basis, unless there is a major event.

Last updated: 15/06/2025

Astra 2E orbits at 28.5°E, whereas Astra 2F and 2G are located at 28.2°E.

This page will no longer be updated beyond 1st July 2025.

TNT Sports clears transponder

12/06/2025 – TNT Sports has cleared Astra 2G transponder 99 (11612 H). All affected channels have moved to 11685 V (Astra 2G, tp 104).

WBD DVB-S2 switch

11/06/2025 – Astra 2G transponder 98 (11597 V) has switched to DVB-S2. The transponder includes the Irish versions of free-to-air Really and Food Network and some TNT Sports SD channels. The FEC has changed from 5/6 to 2/3 and mode from QPSK to 8PSK.

ITV Quiz replacing ITVBe

08/06/2025 – Tomorrow morning, ITV Quiz will take over the broadcast frequency and Sky/Freesat channel slots of ITV Be HD on satellite.

Radio News available in DVB-S2

06/06/2025 – The Sky News Radio service, supplier of Independent Radio News (IRN) to commercial and community stations across the UK and English-language stations elsewhere is now broadcasting a new feed.

The feed is on a DVB-S2 transponder, meaning radio stations will need to ensure they’ve got a compatible receiver. Regular viewers had to go through the switch to DVB-S2 in 2023-24 when most major broadcasters switched their service over. Newer Sky+HD, Sky Q, Freesat HD and 4K boxes support DVB-S2.

Anyone with the right equipment can tune in on Astra 2F, 12148 H (SR 27500, FEC 2/3, DVB-S2, 8PSK). The label is ‘SNR/IRN DVB-S2’. Its service ID is 4757. The feed comes to life at the top of the hour with a news bulletin, plus various feeds at other times.

The old DVB-S feed on 11934 V remains on-air for now.

That’s TV changes

02/06/2025 – That’s Price has revered back to That’s Dance.

Sky Mix HD UK has completed transponder

23/05/2025 – After a month of dual running, the UK version of Sky Mix HD is now only available on its new transponder frequency – Astra 2F, transponder 24, 12168 V, (DVB-S2, QPSK) SID: 6831. It is no longer carried on 12227 H.

That’s Music channels rebrand

22/05/2025 – That’s Oldies has been replaced by That’s Summer and That’s Dance has been replaced by That’s Pride.

Paramount starts switch to DVB-S2

20/05/2025 – Paramount is the last major TV broadcaster on satellite to have started migrating to the newer DVB-S2 standard. Astra 2G transponder 69 – 11141 H – which carries channels including Nickelodeon and Comedy Central in SD has been switched to DVB-S2. If you’ve lost channels on Sky Q or Sky+HD, you may need to reboot your receiver.

Switching to DVB-S2 generally allows broadcasters to either fit more channels in the same space, (b) to end SD simulcasts (c) to reduce the overall bandwidth used on satellite, cutting costs or (d) a combination of the above. The change will have little impact on users, as boxes that didn’t support DVB-S2 largely became redundant last year when other broadcasters switched.

PBC delisted from Sky

20/05/2025 – PBC, which was on Sky channel 768, has been removed from the Sky satellite Electronic Programme Guide.

U&Alibi HD ROI and U&Dave HD ROI switch transponders

15/05/2025 – Two channels which survived April’s cull of HD channels on Sky have transferred to a new frequency. U&Alibi HD ROI and U&Dave HD ROI have moved to 12191 V, joining their SD counterparts on the same transponder. Sky boxes will have automatically updated.

Owner UKTV deleted U&W HD and U&Yesterday HD from satellite at the beginning of April.

Music channels complete transponder change

06/05/2025 – NOW ROCK and Clubland TV have completed their move to 11082 H (see post below).

NOW ROCK and Clubland TV preparing to change transponder

02/05/2025 – The two music channels are set to follow Now 90s and 00s in moving to Astra 2G, transponder 65. They are now dual running on old and new frequencies.

You can find now find them on 11082 H, SR 23000, FEC 2/3, DVB-S2, 8PSK, SID: 50352 [Clubland] and 50355 [NOW ROCK] in addition to their current homes on 11552 H.

The dual running will end once the Sky EPG is updated.

Now 90s and 00s changes transponder

29/04/2025 – Music channel Now 90s and 00s has changed transponder. It is now broadcast on Astra 2G, transponder 65 (11082 H, SR 23000, FEC 2/3, DVB-S2, 8PSK, SID: 50357)

Sky Mix UK dual running ahead of expected transponder change

25/04/2025 – Sky Mix HD (UK version) has been spotted broadcasting on Astra 2F, transponder 24, 12168 V, (DVB-S2, QPSK) SID: 6831. It is currently dual running with transponder 27, 12227, SID 5831. It’s expected this will lead to a transponder change.

POP Max and POP Max+1 leave satellite

22/04/2025 – Following their removal from Sky’s satellite TV service, both channels are no longer broadcast on Astra 2F transponder 110 (11307V)

Housekeeping

03/04/2025 – Following their prior removal from Sky satellite, all data associated with the following channels has been removed from satellite:

  • Ayozat TV, Ramazan TV HD, TWR, Word Network

HD channel closures

01/04/2025 – The following channels are no longer broadcast in HD via satellite:

  • U&W HD, U&Yesterday HD and Crime+Investigation HD

Channel closures

31/03/2025 – TWR no longer broadcasts on Sky or Freesat. Sky Sports Racing SD has been removed from Sky. The channel is now HD only.

Panjab TV launches

17/03/2025 – Panjab TV joins Sky on channel 761.

Channel 5 rebrands

12/03/2025 – Channel 5 is now officially ‘5’ in the latest rebrand of the almost 28 year old channel. This means that on satellite, the channel’s labels have now changed to reflect the change. Channel 5 previously rebranded to ‘Five’ in the 2000s.

E4 HD changes transponder

10/03/2025 – Sky has moved the encrypted E4 HD channel from 11856 V to 12227 H.

It’s the third channel to leave 11856 V after Eurosport 1 HD and Eurosport 2 HD ceased broadcasting in the UK and Ireland at the end of February.

Countdown to Eurosport leaving UK and Irish screens

21/02/2025 – Sky has confirmed how the loss of Eurosport will affect its channel line-up from next week. Warner Bros Discovery is closing Eurosport in the UK and Ireland only in favour of its premium sports brand TNT Sports, which it currently still operates as a joint venture with BT.

On a technical note, Eurosport 1 and 2 in both SD and HD used Sky’s transponder capacity to broadcast on Sky, whereas WBD has made separate arrangements for its other channels.

New channels joining Sky

21/02/2025 – Ramazan TV HD will launch on Sky satellite channel 791 in the UK on Thursday 27th February. Meanwhile, Panjab TV is also gearing up for launch on Sky’s satellite TV platform.

Three channels switch transponder

20/02/2025 – IQRA TV, IQRA Bangla and Islam TV have migrated to 11225V from their original home on 11642H. Sky receivers should automatically update.

UKTV goes DVB-S2

18/02/2025 – UKTV’s satellite transponder, which is transponder 22 on Astra 2E (12129 V) is now operating in DVB-S2 mode with a revised FEC of 2/3 (was 5/6).

The BBC Studios-owned broadcaster is one of the last to convert their transponder to DVB-S2. UKTV holds transponder 22 as part of a contract with satellite owner SES until 2029.

Quietest time for satellite changes

11/02/2025 – We’ve not had such a quiet time regarding satellite changes for some time. Three years ago on 1st February 2022, BBC Three relaunched on TV. Two years ago, the BBC was busily launching new HD channels. Last year, it was all about the closure of SD channels from both the BBC and ITV.

The next ‘major’ event will the closure of Eurosport at the end of the month. Premier Sports’ new Rugby channel is on the horizon as well.

In the meantime, just minor changes to Sky’s channels, for example, Sky Sports NFL has reverted back to Sky Sports Action following the end of the 2024/25 NFL season.

Final traces of Sports Active removed from satellite

03/02/2025 – Sky’s Sports Active red button service ended a while back. However three streams remained in the background, which have now been removed. Sports Active once provided Sky viewers with access to extra sports coverage via the red button. Instead, the red button on Sky Q now directs to internet streams (and for most sports branded as ‘Sky Sports+’ in addition to the linear channel of the same name).

As a result, the satellite streams are no longer needed. That’s a model likely to be followed by the BBC when they eventually retire their BBC RB 1 channel in favour of iPlayer streams.

Three channels return to Sky

23/01/2025 – Takbeer TV (743) has returned to Sky after a couple of days away from the platform. iON (782) and Ahlebait TV (742) have also returned to the platform. Short-term absences are usually the result of either technical or financial issues. Channels broadcasting on Sky’s satellite TV service must abide by certain technical standards and keep up payments to Sky for inclusion on the channel list.

More channels delisted from Sky

21/01/2025 – Ahlebait TV (742), Takbeer TV (743) have been delisted from the Sky satellite EPG.

iON TV delisted from Sky

20/01/2025 – iON TV, previously on Sky satellite channel 782, has been delisted from the EPG. The satellite feed of the channel is still running.

London Live replaced by London TV

20/01/2025 – Local TV channel London Live on Sky channel 117 in London and 11656 V [encrypted] has been replaced by London TV. The local TV licence has been taken over by Local TV Limited, which has previously removed its services from satellite…

Brit Asia delisted from Sky

Full BritAsia statement regarding Sky changes

10/01/2025 – For BritAsia TV viewers, switching to BritAsia’s streaming service after it leaves Sky means a picture upgrade from SD to 4K UHD.

Here’s the full statement from BritAsia CEO Tony Shergill.

The statement says that “after 18 incredible years broadcasting on the Sky platform across the UK and Europe, the time has come to bid farewell to Sky satellite.”

(See post below from 06/01/2025 for more about the change.)

ITV1 HD changes

08/01/2025 – The simulcast of ITV1 HD Central West, London and Meridian East on old and new frequencies is coming to an end. An update has been sent to Freesat boxes, Sky boxes to follow.

Satellite receivers that miss the update may need rebooting.

BritAsia leaves Sky

06/01/2025 – BritAsia TV has said it is transitioning to streaming service “BritAsia Digital”. It will leave Sky on 15th January 2025.

Sky Sports F1 returns

06/01/2025 – Following the end of the PDC Darts World Championship, Sky Sports F1 gets its channel back after three weeks making way for Sky Sports Darts.

Christmas is over

06/01/2025 – One of the few things that does happen during a Sky platform freeze are name (label) changes. As Christmas services have ended, channels including Movies 24 and NOW 90s and 00s are now back.

Transponder changes, channel closures and other substantial EPG changes resume this week.

Sky platform freeze

23/12/2024 – Sky is in the midst of its annual Christmas and New Year platform freeze.

Due to Sky’s dominance of the digital satellite TV platform via the Astra 2 satellite cluster, the platform freeze stops channels making changes at this time. This is unlike most other satellite systems in Europe, where technical changes, closures or launches can still happen during the second half of December or even on New Year’s Day.

Normality returns in January…

Geo News completes satellite transponder migration

11/12/2024 – Geo News is now broadcasting exclusively on its new frequency: 11082 H. The Sky EPG was updated today to point receivers accessing channel 734 to the new frequency.

ITV satellite consolidation

10/12/2024 – ITV moved the bulk of its satellite TV channels across to Arqiva capacity this year, resulting in a number of frequency changes. However, three of its HD channels remained on Sky satellite capacity, after ITV rented out extra space so it could launch all of its regions in HD on satellite.

The transponders now used by ITV are wideband, i.e. have more bandwidth to fit in more channels. Initially, the configuration was kept the same during the transition.

This has now changed. One extra HD channel is being added to each of the three satellite transponders used for ITV’s HD channels (11344 H, 11387 H and 11387 V).

As a result, there’s now capacity to bring on board those three ITV1 HD regions (London, Meridian SE and Central West) currently operating on Sky satellite capacity.

Channel 4 completes SD switch-off

28/11/2024 – Channel 4’s main service is now HD only on satellite. As a result, Sky Q and Sky+HD users have lost C4 SD on channel 804. Channel 4’s offshoots remain in SD, but require a DVB-S2 compatible satellite receiver. Channel 4 is keeping SD variants of its other channels as the HD channels are behind Sky’s paywall.

STV SD feed reassigned to STV Dundee

25/11/2024 – STV’s SD simulcast of STV North (Aberdeen) on satellite has been replaced by STV North (Dundee).

This means Freesat viewers around Dundee can now access the correct version of STV for their area on channel 103, ending an anomaly that’s been running all year. As only STV North (Aberdeen) is broadcast in free-to-air HD, Freesat viewers will see STV North HD in the Dundee area on channel 111.

Final set of Channel 4 satellite changes

25/11/2024 – Ahead of Channel 4 giving up transponder capacity at the end of the month, the final set of changes to Channel 4 services on satellite are taking place this week.

Channel 4 HD London, plus SD copies of E4, More 4 and Film 4 are now broadcasting on 10936V.

An update was issued to Freesat boxes on Monday morning. Sky boxes will be updated later. The last remaining Channel 4 SD feed on 11127V will be pulled from Sky satellite on Thursday (28th).

To make way for the channel, Ireland versions of Food Network, HGTV and Really have moved from 12383 H to 11597V.

That has the advantage that these three channels can now be viewed all over Europe via satellite.

Operation delays updates

Channel 4: next stage of DVB-S2 migration

06/11/2024 – E4 Extra, 4seven and the last remaining Channel 4+1 regions are migrating to DVB-S2 pm 10936V, with a short dual illumination before 10714 H is cleared.

New manual tuning pages

06/11/2024 – Following recent changes to how the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 broadcast their services on satellite, the RXTV satellite manual tuning pages have been updated.

Historically, these pages were structured based on the fact that services were available in both SD and HD and group tuning details accordingly. That has changed, and so have our pages:

  • BBC
  • ITV (including STV and UTV)
  • Channel 4
  • Channel 5

The manual tuning pages are particularly popular by readers in the Republic of Ireland, where it’s more common to find generic free-to-air satellite receivers requiring manual tuning. You’ll also find the ITV page of interest if you want to store an alternative ITV region on your Sky or Freesat receiver.

ITV timeshifts completing migration

05/11/2024 – Sky+HD and Sky Q boxes receiving updates to start receiving ITV +1 channels via their new frequency (see 22/10/2024). Freesat boxes updated at the end of last week.

20th anniversary of the end of Granada Plus

01/11/2024 – It’s the 20th anniversary of the abrupt end of Granada Plus on Sky, which was axed mid-programme just after 4pm on 1st November 2004 to make way for ITV3, which was on the verge of launching on Freeview and cable only at 9pm. It’s a prime example of the last minute deals that are sometimes made to ensure carriage.

Pitaara makes direct switch

31/10/2024 – Pitaara is now broadcasting on 11523H. The move came without a dual illumination period, which is unusual for UK satellite broadcasting.

ITV1+1 starts transponder migration

22/10/2024 – ITV1+1 is moving transponders, as ITV prepares to vacate its final SD-only transponder.

ITV1+1 is now testing on 11344 V (not to be confused with 11344 H, which carries ITV1 HD). A period of dual illumination (11344 V [new] + 10891 H [only]) follows until migration on Sky and Freesat receivers completes.

Create & Craft suspended on Sky

21/10/2024 – Create & Craft is not available on the Sky satellite channel list. More information…

Channel 4+1 moves on Freesat

21/10/2024 – Channel 4’s +1 services have moved to DVB-S2 only on Freesat (see post below). This means further services are now unavailable on older SD only Freesat boxes.

Sky is yet to migrate.

Channel 4 switching to DVB-S2

17/10/2024 – Channel 4’s offshoot SD channels are switching to DVB-S2. Unlike the BBC and ITV, Channel 4’s HD offshoots are paywalled, so Channel 4 needs to retain a free-to-air copy of the SD channels. Channel 4’s main channel, which is available free-to-air in HD will drop the last remaining SD simulcast.

As part of the change, channels including E4, Film4 and More4 are moving to 10936V in the coming weeks, with a period of dual illumination until the old copies are turned off.

Here are the new tuning parameters:

Frequency: 10936
Polarisation: Vertical
Symbol Rate: 23000 (23.0 Mbaud)
FEC: 3/4
Mode: DVB-S2 8PSK
Service ID: 8305 (E4+1), 8364 (C4+1), 8366 (More4+1), 8374 (C4+1), 8381 (Film4+1)

This post has been amended to include an update on the channels currently broadcasting on 10936V in the tuning parameters section.

11344 V switches to DVB-S2

15/10/2024 – A further transponder has switched to DVB-S2. Services on 11344 V are now only available on newer satellite receivers. In addition to the switch to DVB-S2, the Forward Error Correction (FEC) has changed from 5/6 to 2/3 and the modulation is now 8PSK.

This means you can now watch the channel without an active Sky subscription and you can also manually tune in the channel on satellite using any non-Sky receiver (parameters below).

U&Eden will launch on all three UK free TV platforms – Freeview, Freesat and Freely.

The services, which are encrypted and only available to Sky Ireland customers, have moved to fill the vacant bandwidth left behind by the Channel 4 Music channels that closed at the beginning of July.

Channel 4 free-to-air services for UK viewers moved last month from 10936V to 10714H. This means that 10936V is now vacated.

Quest HD moving transponder
