Disney Plus subscribers with Apple devices can now come together to jointly watch a show while on a FaceTime call using Apple’s SharePlay function.
Disney opened up support for Apple’s sharing function in the latest Disney+ app update on iOS.
The Disney Plus SharePlay experience is now available worldwide and is available on all programmes and movies in the Disney+ content catalogue.
Jerrell Jimerson, EVP of Product & Design, Disney Streaming commented:
“We’re very excited to launch SharePlay on Disney+ for Apple users in time for the holidays and ahead of several highly-anticipated premieres. With thousands of movies and shows and a growing content catalogue of new titles and originals, SharePlay provides another opportunity for personal friends and family around the world to come together and create new memories with their favourite stories on Disney+.
What can I do with Disney Plus SharePlay?
- SharePlay sessions can host up to 32 people and offer each participant in the FaceTime call the flexibility of choosing audio and subtitles in the language of their choice.
- Those who prefer a bigger screen can also enjoy the synchronised content on their Apple TV while still sharing with friends and family over FaceTime through their iPhone or iPad.
Where can I access SharePlay with Disney+?
- SharePlay on Disney+ is available on Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad wherever Disney+ is available.
- However, all users in the session must be a Disney+ subscriber and have devices running tvOS 15.1, iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1 or later in order to use the feature.
What does this mean for GroupWatch?
GroupWatch, Disney+’s native in-app co-viewing feature continues to be available globally. Subscribers need to be all in the same country and use a compatible device and operating system.
