Satire movie Don’t Look Up became Netflix’s most watched movie over the Christmas weekend in over 90 countries worldwide.
The movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep, features astronomers trying to warn the earth of an imminent comet strike. World opinion is divided between demanding total destruction of the comet, those who decry unjustified alarmism and believe the mining of the comet will create jobs. There’s also those who deny that the comet even exists.
Globally, over 111 billion hours were spent streaming the movie. Netflix opts to release ‘hours streamed’ metrics instead of the number of subscribers accessing a movie.
In the UK, Spider-Man Homecoming followed in the second place, while Love Actually attracted enough streams to secure third place.
Across TV series, The Witcher and Emily in Paris were number one and two respectively.
Netflix recently started releasing weekly streaming data in a bid to appear more transparent to investors.
