ITV became the latest broadcaster to encounter gremlins over the weekend and the beginning of the week.
Issues at the broadcaster’s Northern Transmission Centre in Leeds forced a number of ITV regions to go into Disaster Recovery mode during Sunday. For the most part, the issues went unnoticed by viewers.
The unspecified fault meant that regional identifiers were displayed on ITV regional services in Central and Northern England, plus the Scottish Borders and Wales for a time. These included ‘GRA’ for Granada and ‘TTT’ for Tyne Tees Television.
On Monday, problems persisted when picture glitches affected both ITV and Channel 5 on Freeview in some regions. It’s understood that the glitching was related to the distribution of a digital multiplex. Channel 4’s services carried on the same Freeview multiplex were unaffected. However, Channel 4 still has its own set of issues to resolve following a separate incident on 25th September.
