Fans of Spanish football and boxing will need to learn new channel numbers for La Liga TV and BoxNation on Sky following a reshuffle at the end of October.
It’s part of a reshuffle triggered by the closure of Eir Sport 1 in Ireland, which frees up a slot on Sky for use by a single service in both the UK and Ireland. Premier Sports has now acquired the slot, triggering the reshuffle.
From Monday 25th October 2021, La Liga TV will move from Sky channel 435 to 427. BoxNation, current occupant of 427, will move to channel 429.
Premier Sports 2 moves to 421, taking over from Eir Sport in the Republic of Ireland. 421 was not allocated to a broadcaster in the UK, as it couldn’t be used in both countries because of Eir Sport.
OVERVIEW | New Sky satellite channel numbers from 25th October 2021
- 421 – Premier Sports 2 (moves from channel 429).
- 427 – La Liga TV (moves from channel 435).
- 429 – BoxNation (moves from channel 427).
Eir Sport was launched by Irish telecoms company Eir. Like its UK counterpart BT, its sports TV service was designed to attract and retain customers. Eir announced earlier this year it was withdrawing from the sports broadcasting business to focus on its core broadband and mobile business.
Technical changes
Meanwhile, technical work has begun to clear services from the satellite transponder used by Eir Sport 1. HUM Masala, HUM Europe and SonLife will be moving from Astra 2G transponder 98 (11597 V) following the removal of Eir Sport 1. For Sky subscribers, the changes will be made automatically in the background.
