Netflix launches its equivalent to turning the TV and watching whatever is on.
It is rolling out a new feature that will save you having to find something to watch on Netflix. Selecting the ‘Play Something’ button will offer a series or film based on what you’ve watched before. With a second press, Netflix will ‘Play Something Else’. This will be something brand news, something on your watch list or something you’ve already started.
Netflix’s Play Something button can be underneath the user profile name as well as on the navigation menu on the left of the screen.
The Play Something button originated from a test that began last year, originally described as a ‘shuffle button’.
Explaining the reasoning behind this new functionality, Cameron Johnson, Director of Product Innovation at Netflix, explained:
“There are times when we just don’t want to make decisions. A Friday evening after a long work week. A fridge full of food but nothing jumps out. A family movie night where no one can agree. We’ve all been there. Sometimes you just want to open Netflix and dive right into a new story. That’s why we’ve created Play Something, an exciting new way to kick back and watch.”
