Nordic Entertainment Group confirms Viaplay will be available to UK subscribers from the second half of 2022. It’s part of a global rollout.
The streamer will offer Nordic series, films, documentaries and children’s programmes, with a combination of both original and acquired content. But UK viewers won’t be able to access Viaplay’s sports offering due to broadcast rights contracts.
Viewers in the UK will be able to subscribe directly to Viaplay, but plans are in place to make the service available through partnerships with “local distributors”.
Following its launch in the UK, it will launch Canada, Germany, Austria and Switzerland by the end of 2023.
The service already has over 3 million subscribers in Scandinavia, Poland and the Baltics. It is targeting 12 million subscribers globally by the end of 2025.
