Netflix is planning is bring forward the launch of its cheaper ad-supported subscription option. And the UK is one of the countries confirmed to be among the first.
The streaming giant has shared details of its plans to ad-buyers, which has now leaked. According to the plans, ad-supported Netflix will go live at the beginning of November. The UK, alongside the USA, Canada, France and Germany are set to become the first five countries to get the new subscription tier.
As reported earlier this week, ad-supported Netflix will subject viewers to four minutes of advertising each hour. In the USA, the ad-supported option looks set to cost somewhere between $7 and $9, which would make it slightly cheaper than the current basic option.
By bringing its launch forward to November, it could overtake Disney+, which is also planning an ad-supported tier. Reports had suggested the ad-supported Disney+ could launch around 8th December.
