Virgin Media customers can now directly access BritBox on their 360 or V6 receivers ahead of major changes to the service later in 2022.
This means an end to the previous workaround, where cable viewers had to access BritBox via the Amazon Prime Video service.
Virgin TV homes will now be able to access the best of British entertainment including the likes of Broadchurch, Downton Abbey, Vera, Only Fools and Horses and Love Island.
BritBox also offers exclusive original content including the second season of period drama Sanditon and Hugh Laurie’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?, available to subscribers from mid April.
In April, BritBox will also add a collection of Carry On movies plus classic ITV series Boon and Surgical Spirit. The Goodies will also be available to stream, while Channel 4 is releasing Stath Lets Flats (series 3) and the first seven series of Escape to the Chateau on BritBox UK.
Transition to ITVX
Later in the year, BritBox UK will become part of ITVX. BritBox content will then become available to Virgin TV customers within the premium tier of the ITVX app on Virgin Media O2’s TV platform.
BritBox UK is now wholly owned by ITV, with content deals with the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
Tom Price, BritBox UK’s Commercial Director said:
“We are thrilled to bring BritBox to Virgin Media customers, building on the multi-year partnership ITV and Virgin Media announced last year.”
David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2 said:
“BritBox is a fantastic addition to Virgin Media’s TV platform, offering our customers access to their favourite British programmes along with a host of top TV channels and apps – all in one place.”
