Channel 4 steps in to cover Chelsea FIFA Club games

1 February 2022

Channel 4 steps in again to offer last minute free-to-air sports coverage, if Chelsea reaches the final of the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2021.

The broadcast rights deal could also see live football on 4seven for the first time, depending on the outcome.

Chelsea hope to lift the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time in their history. If Chelsea make it to the final, it will be shown live on Channel 4 from 4:00pm on Saturday 12th February.

Their semi-final on Wednesday 9th February will be live on E4 with coverage starting at 4pm.

Playoff coverage arrangements

The 3rd/4th place playoff is at 12:45pm on Saturday 12th February 2022.

If Chelsea are involved, it will be broadcast on E4. If Chelsea are not involved, 4seven will show the game.

Channel 4’s Head of Sport Pete Andrews said:

“This is one of the few major honours to have eluded Chelsea so it’d be great if they can make history live on Channel 4. We’re delighted to be bringing top-flight football live on free to air terrestrial television, let’s just hope The Blues can go all the way.”

Channel 4 is also showing highlights of the final, whoever is in it, on the evening of 12th February.

Channel 4 has made a number of events available free-to-air at the last minute in recent months. These have included live coverage of Emma Raducanu’s US Open victory and the final F1 race of 2021.
