Discovery will broadcast 250 hours of live coverage from the Australian Open across its platforms, with all the action from from the Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena and John Cain Arena.
Coverage in the UK and Ireland will be available through Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2. Additionally, action from all courts and matches, plus bonus coverage will be available through Discovery+.
Joining Eurosport’s presenter team is Alizé Lim (pictured), current professional tennis player. She will be based in The Cube, Discovery’s immersive studio in London throughout the tournament. Lim will be joined by seven-time Grand Slam champion Mats Wilander, three-time Grand Slam semi-finalist Johanna Konta (week one) and former world number four Tim Henman (week two).
Eurosport.com will report on the tournament as-it-happens with previews, live blogs and match reports. Bonus coverage after linear coverage has ended will be available on discovery+ and the Eurosport App.
Start of new coverage deal
The 2022 Australian Open is the first of a new 10-year deal between Discovery and Tennis Australia, signed last September. The new agreement includes all linear and digital rights to the tournament. Eurosport has screened live Australian Open tennis since 1995. Since 2016, Eurosport has exclusively shown live coverage in the UK. With the latest deal, Discovery promises to offer viewers a full “360 degree approach” to its tennis coverage, covering every angle on every platform.
Meanwhile, the BBC will show an hour-long free-to-air highlights show starting 22nd January 2022.
Scott Young, Senior Vice President, Content and Production at Discovery, said:
“The first Grand Slam of any season is always exciting, but 2022 feels different with a clear changing of the guard at the top of the sport – new heroes to follow, new champions to be crowned – or can the current superstars of the sport retain their titles? Discovery will be there every step of the way: every point shown, every story told, every angle covered.
The Australian Open runs from 17th-30th January 2022.
