Extra coverage from the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will be available on traditional pay TV platforms during February.
Discovery Sports is offering three extra Eurosport channels, combining with Eurosport’s existing two channels to provide five alternative streams from China.
The Opening Ceremony is on Friday 4th February, but some events will start early, meaning the pop-up channels will be available from 2nd February. The final events take place on 20th February 2022.
Eurosport 3, 4 and 5 are available exclusively in HD and will be rolled out across TV platforms from 2nd February 2022. The channels are available on all platforms where Eurosport 1 and 2 are usually available:
Eurosport | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sky Satellite (SkyQ, Sky+HD) | 410 | 411 | 983 | 984 | 985 |
Sky Glass | 416 | 417 | 419 | 420 | 421 |
Virgin Media | 521 | 522 | 523 | 525 | 526 |
BT TV | 412 SD 435 HD | 413 SD 436 HD | 394 SD 401 HD | 395 SD 402 HD | 396 SD 403 HD |
Once again, Eurosport is taking over the role previously held by the BBC Red Button by offering additional options. This follows a change in the way broadcast rights are controlled in the UK.
BT guaranteed access to Eurosport for the Winter Olympics and beyond thanks to a recently agreed carriage deal extension. It had already advised some subscribers they would lose Eurosport on 17th January.
Eurosport UHD
In addition, UHD coverage will be available on Sky and Virgin Media. Virgin Media will have a Eurosport UHD channel, while Sky will add a red button prompt on Eurosport for viewers to access UHD.
Streaming coverage
Alternatively, full coverage of the Olympics is available through Discovery+ or Eurosport Player. This includes all of the coverage available on Eurosport’s live channels, plus extra coverage for subscribers.
Discovery+ is currently offering an annual sports & entertainment subscription for £29.99 (normal price £59.99), which includes the Winter Olympics. The offer ends on 20th February 2022.
Eurosport Player is in the process of being phased out. New customers are being invited to sign-up for Discovery+, existing customers are being advised to switch over to Discovery+. However, a legacy sign-up page is still online at the time of publication.
