ITV says an update to its streaming app ITVX should solve problems encountered by Samsung TV owners trying to launch the app.
Users trying to access the streaming service previously struggled to get the service running on their Samsung Smart TVs.
An updated version of the ITVX app is being pushed out to affected Samsung Smart TVs, which should automatically download.
ITVX Support has advised that for most users, all you need to do is re-open the app. If the app hasn’t automatically updated, you should turn your TV off and on again.
The advice assumes you have retained the default Samsung TV setting to automatically update apps. If you’ve changed settings to manual updates, you’ll need to consult your user manual.
The ITVX app is available on all current Samsung Smart TVs, including 2016 and newer Tizen models. Ahead of the arrival of ITVX, predecessor ITV Hub was removed from 2015 and earlier Samsung TV models. Older devices from other manufacturers were also impacted by the move, due to a change in the content protection used by ITV for its online service.
ITVX is currently being rolled out across a variety of smart TV and connected TV platforms. The service officially launches on 8th December, when a range of exclusive content goes live. However, a number of devices, including Samsung smart TVs already have access to ITVX Premium. This provides ad-free on-demand streaming for most shows, plus the entire BritBox UK library. ITVX Premium costs £5.99 a month.
▶ In addition to providing access to ITV’s current channels in HD, ITVX also includes a number of special online-only channels. These include channels dedicated to quiz show The Chase and to ITV Classics. Users can also access an on-demand and catch-up TV library with more than 10,000 hours of programmes.
