Samsung’s free-to-stream TV platform has added GB News. Trace Urban has also returned to the UK via the platform.
Samsung TV Plus offers over 100 channels and is available on all current Samsung Smart TV models and selected Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
GB News is the latest in a growing number of news channels on the platform. It’s now available on TV Plus channel 4326, between Reuters and The Guardian TV.
The arrival of GB News comes days before rival news channel TalkTV launches on TV Plus channel 4316. The two channels aim to target similar audiences with a blend of news-based opinion and talk. Both services are expanding across streaming and audio services to reach all corners of the UK.
GB News is controlled by All Perspectives Limited, majority owned by Dubai-based investment firm Legatum. US media giant Warner Bros Discovery has a minority stake in the company. TalkTV is part of News UK. News UK is turn part of Rupert Murdoch’s business empire.
New music addition
For music fans, Trace Urban has launched on TV Plus, channel 4718. It marks a return to UK screens for the channel, which originally replaced Chart Show TV on satellite. Trace Urban features 24/7 urban music and culture, including rap, R&B and Hip-Hop.
The channel ceased to be available on Sky at the beginning of October 2020, although Trace does still offer other channels on Sky. The France-based media group originally bought Sony Pictures Television’s UK music channels in 2019, before rebranding them under the Trace brand name.
Samsung recently reshuffled TV Plus channel numbers, allowing it to cater for a growing number of channels joining the platform. Availability of channels varies from country to country. The UK channel list is available here. Where available, TV Plus channels appear between channel 4000 and 4999.
