This summer has seen further new streaming channels launch on smart TV platforms in the UK, including on Samsung TV Plus, Pluto TV and Channelbox.
All services are free, ad-supported channels. Many new services opt to launch on streaming platforms, as they are quicker and easier to set up than traditional TV platforms. A growing number of providers offer monothematic channels, devoted to a particular programme.
Samsung TV Plus
Pluto TV Action has joined the growing number of channels available on Samsung TV Plus. The action movie service can be streamed through TV Plus channel 4939 on compatible Samsung Smart TVs, phones and tablets.
Pluto TV
On Pluto TV itself, the UK service now features five recently added services.
Pluto TV Music goes backstage with profiles of popular artists.
Catfish: The TV Show is devoted to the MTV relationships series 24/7
World’s Greatest is a documentary channel that takes viewers around the planet, revealing the best cities, natural wonders, animal encounters, journeys and adventures, monuments, and islands.
48 Hours is a channel broadcasting back episodes of the CBS true crime story show.
Moonbug Kids is a children’s channel from London-based Moonbug, which is already present on a number of streaming platforms.
The new channels from Pluto TV are available on a number of smart TVs, including LG, Samsung and Android TVs. Connected devices that offer the Pluto TV app include Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku and Playstation.
Channelbox
Meanwhile, streaming platform Channelbox, which is available on connected Freeview devices through channel 271 added three Trace Music channels to its platform at the beginning of July. Trace Urban, Trace Latina and Trace Brazuca are now available alongside other music channels including Qello, CMusic and Stingray.
Rakuten TV
Finally, since our spring check, the Rakuten TV platform has added new food channel Planet Eat, a global food channel that first went online in 2020. On Rakuten TV, viewers can find the channel within the dedicated food section.
The availability of streaming channels may vary between devices. And just as soon as they launch, channels can vanish at short or no notice.
