ITV is getting ready to replace ITV Hub with ITVX. As part of the upgrade, some viewers will start to see warning pop-ups telling them their device won’t be supported.
Ahead of the launch of ITVX, ITV needs to upgrade the content protection on its streaming services. This means some older devices will no longer be supported effective 28th September 2022.
Among the affected devices that have been confirmed so far are a number of Chinese brands, including Avtex and CVTE Freeview devices and the 2016 Hisense MTK5657 and TCL 6586 6 Series from 2018. Affected users will need to switch to an alternative device to keep accessing ITV content online.
For unaffected users, the existing ITV Hub app will be replaced by ITVX this autumn. At this point, the app will be able to offer improved streaming quality and additional content. ITV Hub+ and BritBox UK are merging into the premium tier of ITVX. For non-subscribers, nearly 10,000 hours of content, plus live streams will continue to be available for free and with adverts for registered users.
