Recordings may fail as schedules continue to change

9 September 2022

Freeview has warned recordings of programmes may be affected, as broadcasters scramble to make further changes to their schedules following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.

Some sporting events have already been cancelled, and earlier this morning, the BBC confirmed the final two nights of The Proms are also off. Last Night of the Proms was due to fill schedules across BBC One and BBC Two on Saturday night.

Freeview says its TV Guide will display updated schedule information, as soon as it gets the information from broadcasters. Other platform providers are also working to keep their guides as up to date as possible.

Many of BBC One’s normal programmes on Friday have moved to BBC Two, in a move that will affect series links. Thursday night’s EastEnders is among the shows to be shown on Friday evening on BBC Two. Channel 5 has been broadcasting programmes without ad breaks, meaning their running time is shorter than normal.

Saturday schedules remain disrupted across BBC One and ITV, but on Sunday, both channels will begin to return to planned programmes, with BBC One screening Frozen Planet II and The Capture in the evening.

Elsewhere,
  • most shopping channels have restored broadcasts this morning. QVC remained suspended.
  • That’s TV and Classic Hits have returned on air.
  • A number of commercial channels continue to show programmes without ad-breaks. This has resulted in a shorter running times for programmes, especially on Channel 4 and Channel 5.
  • UKTV channels have been screening a holding slide during breaks to ensure scheduled programmes still run at the expected times.
  • Individual programmes are subject to be pulled from the schedule at short notice, if they cover an item that would be unsuitable in the current environment. The eagerly awaited episode of Celebrity MasterChef with Mary Berry is one such casualty, due to its Jubilee-related theme.
  • Music radio stations have mostly returned to music programming with a toned-down playlist.
