Freesat and Sky are migrating their users to Al Jazeera’s new satellite frequency this week.
The Doha-based international news channel is moving to a new transponder on the Astra 2G satellite, forcing satellite operators to issue an update to satellite receivers.
Freesat completed its migration on Tuesday morning, with receivers now being directed to Al Jazeera’s new frequency. Sky will follow this week, enabling Al Jazeera to cease broadcasting on the old frequency.
For the most part, Freesat and Sky viewers won’t need to take any action. Al Jazeera HD will continue to be available on its current channel number. If, for whatever reason, the receiver hasn’t received the update and Al Jazeera has gone blank or shows as ‘unavailable’, a reboot of the receiver will normally fix it for most users.
Viewers using a generic (non-Sky/Freesat) satellite receiver will need to retune to keep receiving the channel.
