Channel 5 partners with Sky for Cricket World Cup highlights

20 September 2023

Channel 5 will show daily highlights of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on free-to-air television this autumn.

  • The event starts on 5th October and runs until 19th November, and is held in India.
  • Channel 5 will show a one hour highlights programme every day at 19:00.
  • The highlights will be made available on My5 afterwards.

Channel 5 has become the latest UK free-to-air broadcaster to partner with Sky Sports to bring free-to-air viewers action of a major sporting event.

The highlights will round up the action from each fixture, plus insights from some of the game’s most high-profile players.

The deal sees Channel 5 offer free-to-air viewers a nightly one hour highlights programme on each of the 48 days of action at 19:00.

For cricket fans wanting live coverage, Sky holds the exclusive live broadcast rights to the Cricket World Cup in the UK and Ireland alongside other major cricketing events, as part of a long-term deal with the ICC announced back January. Sky will also be airing its own highlights on its pay TV service.

The daily highlights will be made available on Channel 5’s on-demand platform, My5 after the linear broadcast.

Corporate comment

Federico Ruiz, Commissioning Editor, Channel 5 and Paramount+ commented:

“Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for one of the most hotly anticipated sporting events this Autumn. With England going into battle to retain their title, our World Cup coverage will have fans across the country on the edge of their seats so clear your diary and tune in.”

Bryan Henderson, Director of Cricket, Sky Sports, added:

“It’s been a brilliant summer of cricket with record breaking viewership figures across the Men’s and Women’s Ashes as well as attendance records at The Hundred, so this competition represents a huge opportunity to capitalise on newer fans to the sport. As the home of cricket in UK and Ireland, we’re committed to delivering the very best coverage and analysis of the Men’s Cricket World Cup, which we’re delighted to do so alongside Channel 5.”
