Box sets from STV were previously made available on Sky’s premium satellite receiver following a deal in December 2020. Now Sky Q users across the UK will have access to the full app.
It’s part of a rollout of the STV Player on platforms across the UK, a move that has been credited in driving streamers to the Scottish platform.
The full STV Player service will become available on Sky Q receivers in the UK from Wednesday afternoon.
A selection of STV’s programmes first became available beyond Scotland on Sky Q at the end of 2020, when subscribers gained access to hundreds of hours of STV box sets. The latest move gives Sky Q users the same full STV Player app that is already available on Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
In March, the STV Player received 11.6 million stream requests with 100,000 new users signing up for the app, which is now the home of classic soap Brookside, since the end of January.
Beyond Brookside, STV Player offers a range of international dramas, including Irish crime thriller Redemption and Australian police procedural Rush.
Viewers living within STV’s channel 3 broadcast area can already access a range of catch-up content from STV via Sky Q. Outside of STV’s terrestrial broadcast area, the STV Player excludes channel 3 network programming, which is available on ITVX in other regions.
