TNT Sports joins Discovery+: all you need to know

7 July 2023

The change from BT Sport to TNT Sports on Tuesday 18th July also means some changes in the way you can access the sports broadcaster.

BT and Warner Bros Discovery have assured viewers that they’ll still be able to watch all the live sport that was on BT Sport.

But from 18th July, Discovery+ subscribers will be able to access all four TNT Sports channels in the UK. But you will be required to add-on TNT Sports on top of your existing Discovery+ subscription pack. The current Entertainment+Sport pack only includes Eurosport.

Sky Q, Sky Glass and Stream customers can already opt in to get Discovery+ at no extra cost through Sky, but it’s expected this deal won’t include live streams of TNT Sports. Current BT Sport subscribers are also eligible for access to Discovery+ for the duration of their sports subscription and these will be able to access both TNT Sport and the rest of Discovery+ from the 18th.

What’s happening to the BT Sport app?

The BT Sport app is expected to continue for a limited time. Ultimately, you’ll need to get ready to switch over to the Discovery+ app.

Can I still watch TNT Sports on traditional TV platforms?

  • TNT Sports will be available wherever BT Sport is available at the moment. And if you are billed by BT, EE, Sky or Virgin Media for the channels, they will continue to bill you. But future bills will refer to TNT Sports instead of BT Sport.
  • If you are a Plusnet customer you’ll lose access to the channels from this Wednesday (5th July). You can add BT/TNT Sports to your Sky TV service by adding the channels directly via Sky instead of through Plusnet. Alternatively, you can subscribe directly to Discovery+ (if you haven’t done so already) to get TNT Sports from 18th July. You’ll need the Entertainment+Sports pack.

Are any more changes happening?

  • The BT-Warner Bros Discovery joint venture also includes Eurosport in the UK and Ireland. However Eurosport is set to remain unchanged until at least after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
  • Eurosport is already available on Discovery+.
  • It’s expected that in due course, Sky and Virgin Media will begin offering revised channel bundles that combine Eurosport and TNT Sport. Until then, Eurosport is available separately.

How will TNT Sports be different to BT Sport?

Despite BT and Warner Bros Discovery claiming it’s just a new name, the new TNT Sports service will be very different to its predecessor – BT’s old broadcasting base in east London is being dismantled and some of its best known presenters and commentators aren’t moving across to TNT Sports. The new TNT Sports will be based at Discovery’s London HQ in Chiswick.

What’s going to be on TNT Sports UK?

During the next twelve months, the channels will offer:

  • Every UEFA Champions League and Europa League match, plus exclusive Premier League games
  • Premiership Rugby,
  • MotoGP,
  • Boxing,
  • UFC,
  • WWE, and more
