Olympic channels now live on Virgin Media

16 July 2024

Virgin Media TV customers in the UK now have access to eight extra channels that will cover all main events at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

  • Eurosport UHD plus seven HD pop-up channels now available
  • Live coverage of the Olympics starts two days before the opening ceremony
  • BBC coverage of the event will be limited.

A week ahead of the first Olympic events in Paris, Virgin Media has enabled Eurosport’s extra pop-up channels that will offer viewers a front row seat to the action.

In addition to the regular 4K UHD pop-up channel Eurosport UHD (last seen during the Roland-Garros tennis tournament), Virgin Media also offers seven extra HD channels.

The first sporting events take place on Wednesday 24th July, two days before the actual opening ceremony.

Events taking place before the opening ceremony include Archery, Football, Handball and the Rugby Sevens.

The extra coverage is available to all Virgin Media TV customers who already have Eurosport as part of their subscription.

Meanwhile, the BBC will also offer coverage. As a result of the current broadcast rights arrangement between the BBC and Eurosport owners Warner Bros Discovery, the BBC is limited to around 250 hours of live coverage.

The Olympics will be live on BBC One, jumping over to BBC Two during the news at 1, 6 and 10pm. The BBC will offer a second stream of coverage – called ‘Olympics Extra’, via the BBC RB1 channel (VM channel 990) or the iPlayer.

Where to find the Eurosport pop-up Olympic channels on Virgin Media

In addition to Eurosport 1 and 2 HD on channels 521 and 522, Virgin Media customers also have access to:

  • 523 Eurosport UHD
  • 563 Eurosport 3 HD
  • 564 Eurosport 4 HD
  • 565 Eurosport 5 HD
  • 566 Eurosport 6 HD
  • 567 Eurosport 7 HD
  • 568 Eurosport 8 HD
  • 569 Eurosport 9 HD

If you don’t have access to Eurosport as part of your current Virgin Media TV subscription, you can add access through the “My Virgin Media” portal online. Select view package to see upgrade options.

For non-Virgin Media viewers

Full coverage of every televised event will be available via Discovery+ on smart TVs and dongles, mobile and tablet, plus Sky Q, Sky Stream and EE TV.

EE and Sky TV viewers will be able to watch coverage on Eurosport 1 and 2. To access full coverage, consisting of the seven extra Eurosport HD channels and 55 live event events, access the event through Discovery+.

Discovery+ coverage

Eurosport’s coverage is available via the Discovery+ Standard pack, available for £6.99 a month. Wait until 17th July for a special £3.99 a month offer. But you might be entitled to free Discovery+ Olympic access if you’re with Sky or EE TV.

  • Access to Discovery+ Standard is free for most Sky TV customers with Sky Q, Sky Stream or Sky Glass. Find out more…
  • EE TV subscribers with a current TNT Sports subscription have access to Discovery+ Premium, which also includes the Olympics. See the Discovery+ website for more details on activating your access. Important: Non-TNT Sports subscribers only have access to Discovery+ Basic, which does not include the Olympics.
