Sky and Amazon have announced a new extension of their long-term collaboration that will see Prime Video continue to be available on Sky devices.
- The extension secures Prime Video’s availability across Sky’s satellite and streaming devices.
- Announcement comes short of fourth anniversary of the initial deal that brought Prime Video to Sky.
- Sky has declined to comment on cost of the deal.
Nearly four years after Sky first agreed terms with Amazon, the two companies have agreed an extension of the deal that enables Sky users to access Prime Video on their Sky device.
The 2020 deal formed part of a pivot that saw Sky sign deals with a variety of streaming providers with the goal of enabling them to become one-stop-shop aggregators of content, reducing instances of viewers having to use non-Sky equipment to access streaming services.
Retaining Prime Video was key to Sky being able to continue offering UK users full access to all Premier League games, plus all Champions League games on a single receiver, albeit only with separate providers and subscription packages.
Sky hasn’t disclosed the exact duration of what it calls a ‘new’ extension, implying the original deal had already been extended. Neither has it confirmed how much the extension will cost the Comcast-owned company.
In addition to the UK, the deal covers Ireland, Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland and includes its current range of satellite and streaming boxes and TVs.
Meanwhile, the deal promises to build on the existing partnership to ensure that Sky customers can continue to enjoy access not only to Prime Video’s football coverage, but also hit shows including Clarkson’s Farm, LOL: Last One Laughing, The Boys, and many more.
