Virgin Media’s cable TV customers can now access children’s channels Boomerang and Cartoonito in HD.
- Free upgrade for eligible customers.
- Follows a deal reached between Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) and Virgin Media.
A free upgrade from Virgin Media means most UK customers can now access the two children’s channel with improved picture quality.
During the early hours of Friday 27th September, standard definition (SD) versions of both Boomerang and Cartoonito were replaced by high definition (HD) copies of the channels.
Cartoonito is the home of animated shows for younger viewers including Fireman Sam, Batwheels and Silly Sundays. It’s now in HD on Virgin Media channel 706.
Boomerang offers cartoons featuring the Looney Tunes, Mr Bean, Tom and Jerry and Scooby-Doo. It’s available in HD on Virgin Media channel 730.
Availability of these channels on Virgin Media TV360 and older V6 boxes is subject to your subscription level. These channels are available as ‘personal picks’. Boomerang+1 remains SD only.
The HD upgrade is a further element of a recent deal struck between channel owner Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) and Virgin Media. Earlier in September, Virgin reinstated WBD’s international news channel CNN after a three year break.
As new carriage deals are negotiated, Virgin Media is dropping SD copies of channels.
