Japan’s international channel, which offered viewers a range of news, factual and cultural programmes is axed from Virgin Media’s UK TV service.
In an overnight update, NHK World-Japan was removed from channel 625. The English-language channel was well-known for programmes on Japanese life and culture, including shows about cycling, food, language music and trains alongside hourly news bulletins.
UK viewers can continue to stream NHK World-Japan for free via its website or through connected Freeview devices on channel 272. The channel also continues to broadcast on Sky satellite and Freesat.
Virgin Media hasn’t commented on the channel’s removal.
As part of the same update, Virgin Media has added shopping channel High Street TV on channel 759.
