Rewind TV revives classic shows for the summer

20 May 2025

Free-to-air classic television channel Rewind TV UK has unveiled a summer line-up of vintage TV taking viewers down memory lane.

This summer, Rewind TV revives the razor-sharp wit of Jokers Wild, the timeless satire of A Sharp Intake of Breath starring Sir David Jason, and the gentle countryside reflections of Old Country with the ever-wise Jack Hargreaves.

A Sharp Intake of Breath – Starts 24th June at 2:30pm & 7:30pm

The quietly subversive sitcom that perfectly captured the frustrations of everyday British life. Starring a young David Jason as the everyman Peter Barnes, the show’s wry take on bureaucracy, rules, and red tape still resonates with audiences today. From passive-aggressive officials to impossible forms, the series blends farce with familiarity in only the way British comedy can.

David Jason’s understated yet brilliantly expressive performance anchors the show, portraying a man quietly at war with an absurd world. The supporting cast—often playing multiple roles—adds a surreal, theatrical quality that makes the show both unique and instantly relatable, even decades after its original broadcast.

Joker’s Wild – Starts 2nd July at 10:30am & 7:30pm

First airing in the 1970s, Jokers Wild was the ultimate panel show for comedy fans, pitting legendary comedians against each other in a battle of stand-up routines and quick-fire gags. With host Barry Cryer at the helm and appearances from comic greats such as Arthur Askey, Les Dawson, John Cleese, and Frankie Howerd, the show remains a brilliant snapshot of British humour at its most spontaneous and side-splitting.

Whether you’re revisiting it or discovering it for the first time, Jokers Wild offers a fascinating glimpse into the golden age of British comedy—an era where wit, wordplay, and off-the-cuff brilliance reigned supreme. It’s a reminder of the enduring talent
of performers who paved the way for generations of comedians to come.

Jack Hargreaves’ Old Country- Starts 20th July 4:30 PM

Completing the summer line-up, Rewind TV UK brings back the much-loved countryside classic Old Country, presented by the ever gentle and insightful Jack Hargreaves. First airing in the early 1980s, this series offered viewers a thoughtful and nostalgic look at rural British life, traditions, and crafts that were fast disappearing even then. With his signature pipe in hand and a calming presence, Hargreaves invited audiences to slow down and reconnect with the land, its people, and its past.

More than just a travelogue, Old Country was part memoir, part documentary, and all heart. Hargreaves, used each episode to reflect on how modern life was changing the countryside, capturing everything from hedge laying and blacksmithing to village customs and local legends. Today, his words feel more relevant than ever in an age of fast living and digital distraction—making Old Country a serene and essential watch for summer evenings.

“These series are a celebration of clever writing, impeccable timing, and the comedic brilliance of some of Britain’s most well-known talents,” said Oscar Beuselinck for Rewind TV. “We’re thrilled to reintroduce these classics to both long-time fans and a new generation of viewers.”

Rewind TV first appeared on Sky in May 2024 as the UK’s newest independent TV channel. The channel launched on Freeview and Freely (for viewers using an aerial) in September, initially on channel 95 before moving in March 2025.

Rewind TV is currently available on Freeview 92, Freely 141 and Sky satellite channel 182.
