Work continues on new Bilsdale Freeview mast

4 June 2023

Engineers make use of fine weather to conduct essential work on the new Bilsdale mast affecting Freeview reception in parts of North Yorkshire, Teesside and County Durham.

The engineering work will only affect Freeview television services, and is due to take place over the next two days.

During this time, Freeview TV reception in the region will be affected.

After moving the first services to the new 300 metre Bilsdale mast on the 22nd May, mast owner Arqiva continues to work on the installation of new antenna. This will enable it to migrate all TV services, plus radio and mobile phone services.

Ultimately, the work will enable Arqiva to remove the temporary Bilsdale Tower and decommission a network of relay transmitters dotted around the North York Moors.

The work is taking place as part of Arqiva’s ‘Project Restore’. The project aims to return TV and radio reception in the region back to how it was before the Bilsdale transmitter fire of August 2021.
