Goodbye Vevo: music app exits Sky Q

31 January 2025

The music video streaming app from a brand once ubiquitous on YouTube has closed on Sky Q and other platforms around the world.

  • Vevo app closure on TV platforms follows end of mobile app seven years ago.
  • App also closed on Virgin Media earlier this week.

The Vevo app has been discontinued on Sky Q, days after departing Virgin Media’s TV platform.

Once the streaming home of all the biggest music artists and videos, the app has been withdrawn from TV platforms as part of wider changes at Vevo affecting viewers in some parts of the world.

The Vevo music app for big screen devices was removed from a number of platforms in countries including Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Spain and the UK on 31st January.

Virgin Media UK viewers already lost access to Vevo on Tuesday 28th January. At the time of closure, Vevo was only available through Sky on Sky Q boxes.

It’s the second major change of distribution strategy for the company. Back in 2018 it closed its consumer website and mobile app.

Despite previously operating a website and app, Vevo is probably best known for its presence on YouTube.

Meanwhile, Vevo also continues to operate a number of linear streaming channels on selected platforms. It currently runs four channels through Samsung TV Plus in the UK.
