Playing catch-up: UKTV’s U joins Sky Q

11 September 2025

U on Q: Viewers with a Sky Q box can now access UKTV’s U streaming app, ending a long-standing anomaly that left some Sky customers without access to the service.

  • App, which showcases content from channels including U&Dave and U&Drama, was previously only available on Sky Stream and Glass in the UK.
  • Deal with Sky also includes ongoing availability of U&alibi and U&Gold on Sky TV services in both the UK and Ireland.

UKTV has officially rolled out its free streaming service, U, to Sky Q customers in the UK—marking another milestone in its expansion.

This latest launch builds on the multi-year agreement unveiled in September 2024, which initially brought the U app to Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices. That deal left some Sky subscribers with access to U, and others without.

UKTV and Sky also confirmed this latest agreement also secures the ongoing availability of UKTV’s pay TV channels U&alibi and U&Gold across Sky platforms in both the UK and Ireland. The U streaming service continues to be unavailable in the Republic of Ireland.

With Sky Q now added to the mix, even more viewers can enjoy seamless access to U’s diverse content library. The app features catch-up programming from UKTV’s free-to-air channels—U&Dave, U&Drama, U&W, U&Yesterday, and U&Eden—alongside a growing slate of exclusive originals, premiere acquisitions, and popular BBC shows.

What’s available on U?

Popular shows available to stream on U include:

  • The Marlow Murder Club,
  • Outrageous,
  • the new version of Bergerac,
  • Pete Wicks: For Dogs’ Sake,
  • Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over,
  • The Chelsea Detective,
  • Ladies in Black
  • The Count of Monte Cristo.

Over 9,000 hours of content is available through the U app.

Corporate comments

Sam Tewungwa, Managing Director, UKTV, commented:

“U is going from strength to strength with on-going growth in views, reach and quality of content. We’re delighted to be building on this success by bringing U to more Sky homes via the hugely popular Sky Q platform.”

Jon Simkin, Managing Director, Content Partnerships, Sky, added:

“We’re pleased to expand our partnership with UKTV through the launch of the U app on Sky Q, having already launched on Sky Stream and Sky Glass. This gives our customers even more choice and flexibility in how they enjoy great TV on Sky.”
