WBD opens up TLC on satellite

Freesat users get an extra HD channel
13 January 2026

⚠️Please see Freesat viewers locked out of TLC for an update on the loss of TLC during the weekend of 17-18 January 2026.

TLC HD and TLC+1 have gone live on Freesat after Warner Bros Discovery lifted encryption of both services this morning.

Quest goes HD-only on Freesat as TLC arrives
Freesat users will need to switch to another device to catch-up on shows

TLC HD has gone live on Freesat channel 144 as Warner Bros Discovery launches a second free-to-air HD channel on the satellite TV service. It’s joined by standard definition timeshift TLC+1 on channel 150.

As part of the changes, sister channel Quest is now HD only on Freesat boxes. The old standard definition version of the channel, which had become surplus when WBD changed the way it broadcasts its satellite channels, cleared channel 150 to make way for TLC+1.

HGTV closed to make way for the new arrivals at lunchtime today, continuing exclusively on Virgin Media until it closes for good at the end of Tuesday. Freesat viewers will find a selection of HGTV’s former programming over on Really, which takes over HGTV’s former channel number.

How to stream Warner Bros Discovery programmes if you’re a Freesat user

Freesat viewers can stream programmes shown on TLC, DMAX, Food Network, Quest, Quest Red and Really on Discovery+. But you’ll need a different device.

As Freesat branded receivers don’t include Discovery+, you’ll need to access the app either via your smart TV (if supported) or an external streaming dongle/box, such as Fire TV or Roku.

To watch all entertainment content on Discovery+, you’ll need a £3.99 monthly subscription. Sports costs extra. A small amount of content is available to stream for free, however Discovery+ is increasingly making this option different to find. For example, you can see free episodes of programmes on TLC via this link.

What’s changed on Freesat?

The following changes were made at lunchtime on Tuesday 13 January:

  • 144: TLC
  • 150: TLC+1

Channel moves:

  • 145: Quest HD moves from channel 144
  • 149: Really moves from channel 145

  • 149: HGTV closing on all platforms
