BFBS has opted to discontinue broadcasting Forces TV and the BFBS UK radio station on Sky in the Republic of Ireland.
Forces TV was removed from Sky Ireland channel 181 and BFBS Radio from channel 0211 this week. Both services continue to be available on Sky in the UK, including Northern Ireland. They also remain free-to-air via satellite and can be received through Freesat or added to any other type of domestic satellite receiver.
Forces TV has gained an unlikely cult following as a result of a dual identity. During the day, the channel screens military documentaries and news. After 6pm it switches to showcasing classic comedies and dramas. As well as broadcasting on satellite, it’s carried in some areas on Freeview as well as on Virgin Media in the UK. In Europe and beyond, it forms part of the BFBS TV and Radio service to military personnel.
