The way ITV provides live streams of its main linear channels to online viewers has changed.
Previously, ITV relied on 15 encoders on site to provide ITV Hub users with live simulcasts of ITV’s channels. The majority of the video processing and transport delivery has now been moved to the AWS (Amazon Web Services) Cloud. ITV are using AWS Elemental MediaLive and AWS Elemental MediaConnect for this simulcast channel delivery.
ITV’s two playout centres (Leeds and London) continue to playout ITV channels for distribution on traditional digital TV platforms. They also provide a feed for the live streaming platform encoders.
Andrew Pearson, Principal Solutions Architect, Content Supply and Distribution, ITV, said:
“Linear transmission is alive and kicking, but the trajectory is shifting to more stream-based viewing. Having more of our live stream workflow in the Cloud will allow us to better serve all of our audiences and keep pace with evolving viewer expectations. Considering the scope of the project, we carefully examined our options, and AWS emerged as a clear winner in many categories. We’re confident that AWS will continue to bring us innovative new features that will allow us to elevate the viewer experience.”
