The BBC is investigating why viewers using a smart TV by Sharp can’t access the iPlayer. Meanwhile, BBC UHD streams have been removed from some Hisense TVs.
Users trying to sign-in to the BBC iPlayer on affected Sharp smart TV’s aren’t seeing the required activation codes, which links the smart TV to a user’s BBC Account.
As a temporary workaround, the BBC says it may still be possible to sign in as a guest. Guest login is available by pressing the down button on the sign-in screen. The downside is that it won’t provide access to personalised recommendations.
iPlayer sign-in is also required to use the Green Button restart function. This allows viewers to watch a programme from the beginning. The fault finding investigation is ongoing.
Hisense UHD
In a separate development, 2020-model Hisense UHD TV are currently without access to BBC iPlayer UHD streams. It follows a fault reported earlier this month when affected devices played the sound without a picture.
Hisense are currently investigating the problem with their devices. The BBC says HD and SD streams continue to be available as normal.
