Pluto TV has launched two new channels from the company behind services including Blaze and Crime+Investigation.
It means streamers can now access a range of programmes from A+E Network’s programme library on two bespoke free ad-supported television channels.
Pluto TV, operated by Paramount, is a free-to-access streaming service, available on a number of smart TVs, streaming devices, mobiles and tablets.
Inside Crime UK goes behind the headlines of some of the country’s most infamous crimes, with a range of programmes which open the door to real life crime scenes. Programmes include Crimes That Shook Britain and Britain’s Darkest Taboos.
Mystery TV features aliens, UFOs and conspiracies. Programmes include Weird or What with William Shatner and Conspiracy Fires Unsealed, based on declassified FBI files.
Announcing the arrival of the two new services, Julie Mitchelmore, VP Digital, A+E Networks UK said:
The growth of true crime and mystery programming continues to go from strength to strength. This partnership provides a great opportunity to maximise our catalogue of evergreen programming for new digital audiences who can stream A+E Network UK’s shows anytime, anywhere.
Context
Providers such as A+E Networks and Paramount generally launch bespoke streaming channels, as their existing premium channel brands are already tied in to distribution contracts with pay TV companies. As a result, new programming will premier first on pay TV channels before eventually becoming available on services like Pluto TV. In some ways this mirrors what broadcasters first did when Freeview launched in the UK – back then companies including Viacom, Flextech and UKTV created bespoke free channels airing older content, preserving their main brands for pay TV audiences.
