The BBC’s Gaelic language channel BBC Alba has commenced HD tests alongside BBC One regional services for the West Midlands and East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
The new services will go live on Freesat and Sky during the week commencing 6th February 2023, the third week of HD upgrades at the BBC.
Regional opt-outs on BBC One West Midlands and East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire are upscaled until equipment in regional centres is upgraded.
Meanwhile, BBC Four HD, CBeebies HD and BBC Scotland HD have completed their transponder move to Astra 2E Transponder 48 (10818V). Their move has created space to allow BBC Alba HD and BBC One West Midlands HD to launch on Astra 2G Transponder 61 (11024H).
The BBC confirmed last week that all regions will be upgraded to HD on satellite by the 23rd February, earlier than previously indicated.
On Sky+HD and Sky Q, viewers in England who have been upgraded will temporarily see BBC One HD twice in their channel list – once on channel 101 (their region) and again on channel 115 (national version with red slate). On Freesat HD/4K receivers, viewers in England will lose BBC One HD (national) on channel 106 when channel 101 is upgraded. A ‘channel moved’ slate will appear on 106.
