The BBC has reported that some users have lost access to the BBC iPlayer app on older Hitachi TVs.
- Viewers see error message “02050 – Something Went Wrong”.
- BBC says it is liaising with the manufacturer of the TVs.
The BBC believes the issue is affecting Hitachi TVs from 2012-2015.
In an update, the BBC confirms it is working with the manufacturer “to assist them with this issue”.
But in the meantime, affected viewers won’t be able to access the iPlayer directly through their TV. The BBC suggests accessing the BBC iPlayer via alternative means, including the website and the mobile/tablet app.
However, the BBC also says it may be possible to access it on other devices attached to affected TVs, for example a Chromecast or other streaming device or dongle that can be plugged in.
The BBC iPlayer has been the subject of a number of gremlins in recent week, including a fault on some Freeview Play TVs and an increased number of viewers being incorrectly told they’re not in the UK. Both of these issues are now reported as resolved. Some issues aren’t directly the BBC’s fault, but can be due to manufacturer issues. Their software updates may inadvertently break the iPlayer. ‘Not in UK’ messages may the result of using a VPN.
